When I was sixty years younger then I am today, I was permitted to go to a friends house a half mile away, to play, I had to walk. Today we can meet with people on the other side of the world in less time then it take to write this, via the internet. In the old west of two hundred years ago, A person could go a year with out seeing anyone yet alone talk to someone. As people moved west and built homes and towns, they found there was no law but the law of the six-gun no Justice but a tree and a rope.

Today social media is a lot like the old west there is no law, no way to find Justice. There are spammer, hackers, child predators and more outlaws then I can name just waiting for you to fall into their traps. Yesterday I found my self in one, it started by me going to a page that said “lower your monthly payments”. Now I could use some extra money so it looks like a good place to start. After they got my info, they reported they could not help. So I went back to read the posts on Facebook. Then the cloud you have got mail popped up. So I check my email. Where is my nitro, this at first reading was going to give me a heart attack. Here is the email.

 After doing some investigating and re-reading the email I found it to be a scam. I did not contact them.  The FBI’s internet crime task force cannot go after these people because they are not in this country.  Some day maybe ten or twenty years from now the law will be able to get them. The only thing we can do now is to work together and make life hell for them. Report them often. Do you have ideas on how we can stop these people?

One thing that we have not yet replaced after the big wind was our TV antenna; I have no idea where the old one is maybe some where out there in California I guessed. With our satellite dish there is little need for an antenna, however there are some local programs that I would like to get that are not offered by the satellite provider. So I went down to the local hardware store to get a good old fashion TV antenna.  The store is one of them big box stores. I went in and a young man, I would say he was in his early twenties, ask if he could help me find something. I told I was looking for a TV antenna. He said that they had some in the electrical section in the back of the store and he would take me there.

Well we went on the march down one isle then over 5 or 6 then down another, backtrack a bit and then down another. At this time I was beginning to think I should have brought a lunch and a compass or maybe a GPS. Was this guy a New York City cab driver or what? Now I have followed and old Indian scout trough the hills after deer but the scout knew where we were going. Well we finally got to the electrical section. Then he started in with the sales pitch; he pulled out a long box and said that this was the best TV antenna on the market. It was on sale for $299.95 plus tax and was the best “HD digital color TV antenna”. Then he went on to tell me that all the TV stations are now digital and you needed this special antenna to receive digital signals and this one would let me get color and in high definition.  He pointed to the label on the box to back up his clam.

This fellers gee jawing would put an Arkansas mule Skinner to shame.  Whoa Nellie! Hold the phone Mabel! This carpet baggier is so full of it, that a honey dipper would set for life. 

  I did not know whether to break out in laughter rolling in the isles or sit down and cry. The fact of the matter is that I put up my first home built TV antenna in about 1956.  I have designed and build many antennas over the years. As a matter of fact I put up a number of antennas for my ham radio, so many the place look like an antenna farm. An antenna is design to pick up RF (radio frequency) signals, it is only a conductor cut a desired frequency length most commonly quarter wave length. I don’t want to get to technical here. An antenna as important as it is, it is passive, it could not determine what type of signal it receives and it receives all. It is a lot like a fish net, it lets the real big ones go and the ones that are too small. I know more about antennas than Marconi did, as we have learned a lot since he built the first one.

Well after I pulled myself to gather, I educated the young man to the fact that he could drop the “HD digital color” and simply call it a TV antenna.  A rose by any other name is still a rose. Then I bought a nice Yagi TV antenna for $37.95 plus tax.

PS: a Yagi is the TV antenna design most commonly in use today.

Just a little explanation may be need here.  I used some old expressions in this post that some may not understand so here is some help.

“This fellers gee jawing would put an Arkansas mule Skinner to shame.  Whoa Nellie! Hold the phone Mabel! This carpet baggier is so full of it, that a honey dipper would set for life.” 

Gee jawing is: the seemingly meaningless chatter a mule skinner or driver use to drive his or her team. Example “GEE, you dam not heads” mean to go left or right I don’t remember. Making some noise behind mules will keep them moving, most of the time. Kind of like dogs barking at your heels.  Whoa + name of mule Means stop.

Hold the phone Mabel: Comes from the WWII men call home before going over seas. Mabel is a slang contraction ma bell (the phone company).

Carpet Baggers: were and still are people who after the civil war went around the country seeking to make it big off of the misfortunes of other. A lot were swindlers with get rich quick ideas.

Honey dippers: the feller who clean out the out house.

Lot of Discomfort!!!

Lot of Discomfort!!!

 

No it not a mammogram it's my knees. 

Family, friends, and followers that have prayed for me, I say God Bless to each and everyone and keep up the good work. I am well or at least getting well. Learning to walk again and doing the everyday chores, like getting oneself ready for the day, has been an up hill battle. Somewhere in all this I lost my bounce. I have not bounced back this time like I use to.

As you may know a year ago may 25, 2012 I went through the ordeal of a total knee replacement. OUCH!!! 

Note the bone to bone contact in the left knee joint.

They fixed it.

The good news is I lived through it, well I think I did. The bad news is it has taken a lot out of me. The physical discomfort, oh the heck with it, the pain, has made a wreck out of me. Plus I have had a very bad case of writer block. It is hard to maintain ones mental focus, when you hurt. Sitting at the computer for any length of time takes a toll on me both physical and mentally. Sitting in my lazy boy with my feet up is comfortable but not the best place to write. Taking pain pills only make me sleep and does little to abate the pain.  The good side of it is I can walk about two mile with out stopping now. The arthritis in the other parts of my body is what is giving me the problems, shoulders, arm, hip and back.  It’s like I have said many times if I had not made that last jump out of a plane or stayed out of that last car rollover or not been bucked off that last bronco, I would be in great shape, for a wreck. Ha! Ha! I just don’t bounce anymore.

Well I hope I am back in the saddle at least as far as my writing is concerned. On the physical side of things using stairs and getting up off the floor is still a bit of a problem. Getting down on the floor is a problem as well as kneeling. The thing that has gets me the most is the mental adjustments. It's kind of like having twenty 5 year old screaming for ice cream, at the same time, if you know what I mean. I no sooner get one discomfort taken care of and then another starts bugging me. It’s a bit of multitasking overload. I have a lot of things on my mine, but the discomforts of an old body have taken the fore front. 

It is time for me to get back to doing my rehab. so i will say thank you for your prays and god bless.
